Baby Café: Discussion Topic:
Them Eat Dirt...?!
the 150 years since we discovered that microbes cause infectious diseases, we’ve
battled to keep them at bay. But a recent explosion of scientific knowledge has
led to undeniable evidence that early exposure to these organisms is beneficial
to our children’s well-being. It turns out that our current emphasis on
hyper-cleanliness and poor diets are taking a toll on our children’s lifelong
health."--B. Brett Finlay and Marie-Claire Arrieta, authors of "Let
Them Eat Dirt".
these: Are microbes always bad for us? Is there such a thing as an
"over-sanitized" world? How do we make healthy feeding and lifestyle choices?
Let's come together and share our views at Baby Café this week.
"Schedule" for the morning: We sing
some silly songs with the kids, then we let the kids/babes play with the
babysitters while we have our discussion/hear from someone. After the
"learn & discuss" time, we have a snack and just hang out until
11:30ish. There are volunteers who take care of our little ones and
provide the snack so we can rest a bit. We're in the room right next to
the kids while they play so we can hear them, but the great thing is someone
else is taking care of them!
