    When: Weekly on Thursday’s 11:30 am  


    Feel free to do what you need to for your child during this time!  If you need to stop to tend to your kid, no problem at all! 

    Please also pack yourself a blanket and maybe some snacks.  Oftentimes after the walk we hang out at the park for a bit to chit chat :) 

    Location: Newmarket Fairy Lake Water Street Entrance (the street near Cachet restaurant). **meet on the sidewalk off the parking lot. Look for all the moms with strollers :)

    Tamar Spilberg is a mom of four over with 20 years experience in individual, child, family and couple therapy. As a strong believer in inner peace and acceptance, I work extensively every day to help people overcome suffrage from mental illnesses and other personal struggles.

    Self-Reg Parenting is an online course that shows parents how to apply Shanker Self-Reg® in their day-to-day parenting.

    The ten-module, video-based Self-Reg Parenting Course is designed to help parents apply Shanker Self-Reg® in their day-to-day parenting.

    The Self-Reg Parenting Program, delivered through TMC’s e-School, explains the principles of Shanker Self-Reg®, and practical ways parents can use Self-Reg to:

    • gain a whole new understanding of their child’s behaviour and how to respond to it
    • learn the impacts of excess stress on children’s behaviour and mood
    • come to grips with their own stress and how it affects their parenting
    • identify and address the subtle and hidden stressors that affect children in ways that parents might not realize
    • find out how other parents use Self-Reg strategies to deal with real-life parenting situations and problems

    The course material consists of videos which parents can watch at their convenience, and rewatch as often as they like over a 6 month period.

    Contributors to the course content include:

    • Dr. Stuart Shanker, originator of the Self-Reg framework and author of Self-Reg: How to help your child (and you) break the stress cycle and successfully engage with life
    • Dr. Susan Hopkins, Executive Director of the MEHRIT Centre
    • Dr. Jean Clinton, a child and adolescent psychiatrist from McMaster University with a special interest in parenting and parent-child relationships
    • Vicki Parnell, administrator of the Self-Reg Parenting Facebook Group

    Life with a Baby and Best Start by Health Nexus are inviting you to become a trained Peer Facilitator. 

    Peer Facilitators will be prepared to support other mothers experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) through virtual parenting or PMAD support groups. 

    Virtual training will consist of three (3) 2-hour training sessions offered on: 

    • Tuesday, October 27 from 11 AM to 1 PM (EDT).
    • Thursday, October 29 from 11 AM to 1 PM. 
    • Friday November 6th, 12pm to 2pm 

    The training has been adapted from Best Start resources and developed by mental health experts:

    Wear your costume and join families for a Halloween themed music class! This class is suitable for ages 0 to 4, and each class involves rhythm exploration using percussion instruments, live music, and dance party with bubbles! The classes will be about 45-60 minutes including free outdoor play, music, and snacks/mingling time. Limited spots available. 

    Health & Safety Measures

    - This class will take place outdoors in the backyard, limited to 6 families per class.
    - All play equipment will be sanitized before and after. 
    - Individually packaged snacks will be provided at the end of each class.
    - Our interactive toys are cleaned after each use with antibacterial products and disinfectant cleaning agents. Ensure that wipe down equipment, props, and instruments between each class.
    - Feel free to bring your own instruments and bubbles! 

    - If you are experience any symptoms related to COVID-19, please stay home.

    To replicate this vampire, you need paper, black paint, paint for the skin (e.g. white/ brown/ pink), black cardboard, and red cardboard, and black sharpie. (and wipes for after!!) 

    To do a footprint ghost (great for younger children) you will need a dark paper or canvas painted black, and white paint, and a black marker. 

    Optional accessories for "mommas little monster" would be different colour paints and googly eyes.

    Join Life with a Preterm Baby as we enjoy 5 workshops geared towards the preterm parent.  Updates will be posted as guests are confirmed. 

    Week 1 (November 3, 2020) : Making Memory Boxes
    Join Christina Moss, Preterm Program Manager with Life with a Preterm baby, as we share trinkets from our NICU journey and share our stories of strength and resilience.
    Participants are asked to bring a box of memories from the NICU and a shadow box if you'd like. These can be purchased at many Big Box or craft stores.

    With the colder months here, it's time to move play time indoors. Join us for a fun play date at the new Safari Kids Indoor Playground located in Alliston. It is a great place to meet other local parents and children and explore the playground and burn off some energy together. We will also be creating a craft in one of the party rooms.
