Did you take your toddler/ preschooler to their soon-to-be sibling's ultrasound?

I have a 19-week ultrasound coming up and am debating whether or not I should take my almost 3 year old to the appointment. She knows she has a baby brother/ sister on the way, and I'm thinking this might be a way of making it a little more 'real' to her.

Did any of you do this? Does the lab/ ultrasound tech even allow it?

    Congrats on the second baby-to-be!

I don't know where you're going for the ultrasound, but I remember the signs posted at the ultrasound lab at York Central Hospital saying explicitly that other children/siblings are NOT allowed at the appointment... I don't know how strict they are, maybe if you call and ask the answer might be different.

I think it depends on the ultrasound clinic - it would probably be best to call ahead and ask.

It might work as a way to reinforce to your daughter that there is going to be a new baby, though it might still be a bit abstract for her to understand based on seeing the ultrasound; at 19 weeks, the fetus doesn't look like what she probably expects a 'baby' to look like.

As an aside, we found several books on becoming a big brother/ sister that were quite helpful.  Our favourite was "I'm a Big Brother" by Joanna Cole.  There is a version of "I'm a Big Sister", as well as some potty training stories too.

Either way, it's probably not going to become "real" for your daughter until the baby has arrived and has been in the house for a while (and she realizes that baby is not leaving !).

    Good luck !

My four year old and husband came to the clinic (CML) for every ultrasound.  They don't usually let family in until the end, but it's an enjoyable experience for everyone!  When I had my last ultrasound at the hospital, however, the did NOT let them in.  A disappointment!
