    Hi
Has anyone kept their older child(ren) in daycare whilst on maternity leave, and how did this work out on your tax return?

My understanding is that you can claim daycare expenses only if the child is in childcare in order for the parent to earn an income, and the lower earning spouse has to claim this expense. So... if you are on a subsequent maternity leave, theoretically you cannot claim daycare expenses for your older child?

Here are some links I've found regarding this issue:

I have also read/ heard that you can justify the tax claim if you can prove that you needed to keep your child in the daycare in order to keep their spot. I'm now wondering if anyone knows how exactly do you prove this?!

Hi Debbi. I'm in that exact predicament.  I'm on mat leave with baby number two while baby number one is in full time daycare. I'd be interested if anyone has any information about this too.
Thanks for bringing it up.  I didn't even think of trying to claim it (if possible).
