    Ain't this so relevant and we can all relate one way or another.  Read on and find your enlightenment or confirmation or tips to manage our "addiction" to being plugged in and online.  From the New York Times:  The Risks of Parenting While Plugged In

    Here's a river of commentaries from the editors, too, to get more perspective:  First Steps to Digital Detox

    Are there tips you can share with us to avoid the pitfalls of getting too distracted with gadgets and computers when the kids need us?  Here's 2 that seem to work for me.... so far.
    1. Keeping a work station at the basement and the laptop chained & bolted to it;
    2. Following a schedule with a sand timer in a three legged stand, uh, not really but I do follow a cut-off no matter how much it hurts.

    And, yes, I decided not to have the really cool & awesome and positively tempting little savvy phones because it can be quite a blissful trip.

    Great article, thank you for sharing and raising awareness...
    I have in the past few months made a point of noticing and telling myself 'not on Olivia's time' and schedule more time for us and time for me.  It's possible to do both!

    Interesting, very much an eye opener to me since I tend to spend a lot of time on the computer too. My cell phone borke yesterday and I do not miss it, though sometimes I wish I could just have a quick peek at what is happening on the internet ...   :)

    I need to focus on more turning OFF gadgets not just leaving them on and walk away cause when the computer is on the temptation is there...:)

    Thank yo for sharing it. I will try harder to have my screen OFF!

    @tunde: True, its a challenge. Practice makes anything improve, or something like that.  Any tempting gadgets off on certain hours of the day can really work. ;)

    Some companies are strongly promoting a work-life balance philosophy like in my husband's workplace. They don't get upset if you're unavailable on weekends and during the night to answer emails and phone calls and its their choice whether they'd want to work longer hours. But end-results are expected to be good.

    I find very little time during the day to hop onto the computer , as it's a desk top in the office- and its just not convenient for me to boot it up, get online, and check what I want to check- I've tried while the kids are awake and playing in the same room....and it turns into the kids both fighting for my lap, wanting a turn on the computer, the cat laying on the keyboard, etc. I just got a cell that has a qwerty keyboard- which for me is a FABULOUS feature, but no iphone or bb for internet access at my finger tips.
