My daughter crawled into bed with us last night and I was sooo tired I didn't even noticed but then she had an accident and peed all over us and the bed.  I spot washed, but I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar situation.  How did you clean the mattress?

    Thanks
    Claire

I think you've done enough already, spot cleaning is as good as it can get.  I would also spray a lot of Febreeze to kill the stench, takes a few minutes to dry but after that no smell and the wet spot gone.  I got the world map all marked up beneath the mattress surface by now but its totally invisible and negligible.  ;D

in a similar situation, I used water with soap to spot clean, and then 1 part water to 3 parts vinegar to spray a few times, wait till it dries, then spray again. In my mind, this will not harvest smells/germs, but who knows..

Isn't pee and vinegar both forms of acid?  So, did it actually kill the stench?  I bet the soap and water solution would have worked enough.  Though for longer term, I got surprised with the strong vinegar solution you use.  But yeah, experience tells all.

to prevent future problems I would put a mattress cover on both your bed and your child's mattress and your child's pillow - we had to do it early as my children vomitted a lot during the first few months (I had too much milk) and my boobs leaked a lot - now it is a god send when we have leaky diapers or pull ups - also try a different brand of diaper if it continues to happen - we recently switched to presidents choice and no longer have the leaks or the diaper rash that we used to get with pampers - they sell the mattress and pillow covers at walmart for cheap

Mattress cover is the way to go indeed.  I've looking for a king size, Wal-Mart has this now?  Nice!

    thanks guys

the spot cleaning worked and I also sprayed with Febreeze.  We do have a mattress cover but I took it off to wash it.

It's kind of funny b/c Katelyn hasn't had any accidents since being potty trained until I decided to take the cover off :-)

Now when I wash it, I make sure to put it back right away

Friends of mine use Nature Clean Pet Stain and Odour Remover.
They swear by the tagline: "Just spray and walk away"
