Aren't we all excited to take child photos from the hospital at birth until they're much older.  And with the digital camera age, we just point and shoot and have tons of nice pictures to cherish and to hold until our grave.  Some parents took on taking their kids photos while others still sought professionals for portraits and memorabilias.  What's your preference or which worked better?

I am actually a "professional photographer" as in college degree in photojournalism. I like to take them myself and do a photoshoot in my home 1-2x per year with a backdrop and lighting. I think equipment is the most important component to making great pictures really investing in your equipmemnt by buying a really great point and shoot I use a Lumix point and shoot and a Nikon SLR when using a backdrop or going out to take portraits. Also try to focus on getting in close and making sure there is not too much headroom.

I take tons of pictures of my son on my own with our point and shoot.  Its an old one, but does an okay job.  I also take him to Loblaws every month (until he's 1) for a photoshoot.  For the amount of photos you get, its a good price and those are the ones that I share with others.  I also like that its all on the same background so there's some continuity.  Its also great since we have a frame for one picture for every month up unitl he's 1.

Also for a family photo shoot we will be going to a professional, but that's only because we have gift certificates for it.  If we didn't, I'd go to loblaws for it.

The above poster is right, if you have a great camera and know how to take pictures (there are a number of great intoduction to photography courses out there), you can take some great shots yourself.

I take a lot of pictures and videos myself with my handy Canon PowerShot SD960 IS. It's not professional grade but it does a good job taking good pictures and HD 720p video. I'm glad we bought it because it allows me to switch from video to pictures and vice versa quickly. I figure if I take enough shots, there is bound to be at least 1 that's good! :-)

Besides, my son would never sit through a studio session anyways.

I take TONS of pictures, millions of pictures every day! I have an SLR Camera and some people told me Iam good at taking pictures. Maybe I will post one or twi here to show..lol

So on outings, family occasions I am the "mamarazzi". I have my camera everywhere I go. I love to lok at the pictures and I also scrapbook. Scrapbooking is my hobby. Especially in this age when everything is digital we need to get those pictures developed and put them in albums inseatd of having them stored on our computers etc...

On B'day or xmas I go to Suoerstore to get a cheap print of all of us since I am not on most of the pictures since I am the "mamarazzi".

Here is my blog to see some of my layouts of my scrapbooking albums. I have not been updating them lately since Summer is such a busy time. Come September, I am on it again, lol. If you would like to learn how to scrapbook you can contact me. I get together with friends on regular bases and we can have a great moms night.

But if you start learning to take fabulous pictures, how will you be in it?  Musing on the idea that we will be forever the handler of the hardware and not the subject of the photos.  :D  Like recently we bought one of those SLR's and mygawd its so amazing yet it almost always keep us from getting in front of the lens.  Someone has to hold the camera and wait for the great timing (kids just move a lot, don't they) to click.  But there must be a better work around as I love the idea that we take the pictures anytime anywhere with outdoor landscape involved, right?  Although the professional is a sure superb output. How much do they cost nowadays?

Now that's a great point-and-shoot.  Have you checked out Xacti, too?  Its pretty amazing and super handy.  I think these days Moms would always have a camera in our purse like lipstick, wouldn't we?  :D

Photography and scrapbooking are two awesome memory-keepers!!!  Yeah, having printed photos is still sweeter than viewing it on screen and putting it in lovely crafted background is divine.  Now, the second step can be a little tedious for me.  In time perhaps, in time.
