I was feeding my daughter PC Organics Chicken Noodle Dinner (for toddlers) that I bought at SuperStore recently and to my complete horror, I found a 1.5 cm long chicken bone in the food. We called the 1-800 number on the back of the jar and they took down all the details and said someone would call us back. It didn't seem like the first representative that called back from President's Choice that my husband spoke to took our issue very seriously but after my husband and I couriered a letter to Galen Weston directly, we got a better response.
The second representative asked us to send them the remainder of the product in the jar along with the "object", which we did. They said that they were "disengaging" the vendor that supplies this product until their investigation was complete but we saw the product on the shelf at No Frills a couple of weeks later, before they notified us of the results of their investigation.
In the end, they told us that they identified the "object" as a stem from a vegetable and not a chicken bone. We were disappointed to hear that because there was no mistaking that that was a chicken bone. (I can show you pictures we took of it and I'm sure you would agree.) Who knows what their reasoning was to come to this conclusion... maybe they didn't want the negative publicity of a recall?
In any case, I just wanted to share my story with other moms as this is a serious safety concern. Needless to say, we are steering clear of any President's Choice brand baby/toddler food from now on.
I had a similar experience with PC chicken broth. I found a mysterious green substance in the broth - about the size of a grape. It was semi-solid and fuzzy, almost looked like fungi of some sort. I called the customer service number and they asked me to bring in the substance in a ziploc bag to the No Frills I purchased the product from. I took it in and gave it to the store manager (as per their instructions) who didn't seem to care less about my concerns. He actually made me feel stupid for bringing in the substance. I asked for a follow-up call from customer service once they examined the substance. I did not hear back from them for a couple of months. I called them and they said they never received the sample from the store manager but would give me a $25 gift certificate to the store. I was livid and quite disguisted with the whole experience.
While I quite like many PC products, I am very careful to examine the contents as I do not trust them anymore - or any processed foods manufacturers. Galen Weston should invest in some decent customer service, especially when quality and safety is concerned, rather than his pathetic tv commercials.
Oh, I never did get the $25 gift certificate. When I went to customer service at Enzo's No Frills (Richmond Hill) to ask for it, they said that they did not have anything for me and that the manager would call me. Have not heard from him .... almost one year later.
