How can we tell if the baby is allergic to the milk he/she is being fed with?

My son has a milk allergy, just like his mommy.

He was going poo 4-6 times a day and is was watery, and not so mushy. He also has a lot of gas and around 5pm he would be crying and in pain for a few hours. He kept wanting to drink his bottle and that would help a bit but then to only compound the ,milk problem.

We placed him on lactose free milk/formula and in 24 hours he was a new baby.

The best way, according to the dr. is to put them on lactose free and if the baby feels better they have an allergy.

Adrienne, did you outgrow the allergy? At what age? Our son has it - it came at complete surprise to us, nobody in our family had it.

Christian is 8 months now and we still have him on lactose free formula. Since we are introducing different foods to him, the dr. said it would be best to keep him on lactose free until 12months. This way we don't mix up a food allergy with a milk one.

I don't personally think that he is allergic to milk anymore but I rather not chance it and keep him on the lactose free. We will introduce some yoghurt to him around 12 months and see how that goes.
