Vaccinations

My son is 9 months old and has had all of his routine vaccinations.  I did some library and online research after he was born and decided that it was best to have him vaccinated.  I also did some primary research and asked every parent that I knew if they followed the recommended vaccination schedule and they all said "yes".

My doctor warned us at our son's last appointment that he would be receiving 3 shots at his 1 year appointment.  As a result, I am once again wondering about vaccine safety.  I can't help but think that 3 shots containing 5 vaccines seems excessive.  I feel the need to research this topic thoroughly and be an advocate for my son and his well-being.

I know that this is a controversial topic, so my posting is not intended to create a pro versus anti vaccination discussion, but rather advice on quality sources of information on the topic.  Suggestions?

You can have those shots done in different appointments and even brake down those shots into 5 different ones :)
I choose to wait until my baby is 1 year old to vaccinate her and my pediatrician is willing to break down the shots since i also think 5 vaccines in one are too much for her. So my advice is to ask your doctor if he/she is willing to do it for you :)
    Good luck

We gave all the standard vaccines to our son on schedule, including the 3 shots at 1 year, and he was fine. (He was fine with all of them, and a real trooper at taking them even, cried just for a few minutes after the needle itself, and then I cuddled and comforted him to calm down fairly soon.)

Breaking down the shots sounds like a good idea.  My toddler son took all shorts at once. But I think I'll ask for separate shots for my daughter when she turns 1. I will be able to tell if she is indeed allergic to any particular shot. Thanks for the idea!

In my quest to be comfortable and confident that following the recommended vaccination schedule I have come across a book that I think is excellent.  It is called "The Vaccine Book" by Dr. Sears.  Keep in mind while you are reading it though that this is an American doctor writing based on American vaccines.

Asking questions about routine vaccinations is not of interest to everyone and therefore this book is also not for everyone.  However, if you are interested in the topic and have found yourself wondering "is this safe?" when your doctor tells you which shots your child will be getting at their next appointment, then you will likely agree that this book is well worth the read.

I've waited until 6 months to vaccinate and I usually break up the shots into two separate appointments a month apart.
