We just pierced my daughter's ears 3 weeks ago. We wanted to do it for a long time but we always postponed it. She is 3 years now and she does not like pain. We did not tell her we are going to pierce her ears just that we are going to put some earrings like mommy's.
We did it at Fairview Mall, there are 3 places there, the guest services know: People's, Claire's and Sunshine Spa. We wanted to do it simultaneously in both ears so she will not have a chance to run away. We wanted initially to do it at People's but they said they are too busy to allocate 2 people to do it. We did it at Sunshine spa (kind of a nail salon) and was OK, she does not have any problems.

There is a freezing cream you can buy from Shoppers and apply an hour before. I am not sure if it makes any difference. My daughter cried for 5 min from the pain whne they pierced the ears and then we went outside and she stopped. You can buy also a solution for caring after piercing but we did not use it too much.
You can call in advance the places or even the mall info to get details.

It's easier to do it when girls are smaller, probably under one year.

I got my daughter's ears pierced right after her 3 month shots ... it's a good idea to get the tetanus shot before any piercings.  It was a breeze.  She cried for about 10 seconds and not because of pain, but because of the loud gun shot sound which was startling.  They don't have much sensation in their ear lobes so it's not painful.  Their ear lobes will feel warm to the touch for a few hours but she let me twirl her earings around the same day. It was easy to clean and we have no regrets.

It's a personal preference when to get it done, but I know of parents whose daughters were traumatized at an older age because of the ear piercings.  We got it done at People's.

(not intending to offend) But I have been considering it lately. Leia is 3 months old. Have any of you already pierced your babes ears or are you waiting until they are much older?

My baby girl is only 5 weeks old and I do want to pierce her ears when she's still a baby. In my country they are doing it at birth in the hospital. I asked here at North York Gen.Hosp. but they don't do it, so I'll wait until she's 3 months old to have it done. My friends did it at People's also, and they were happy with their service.

I already have the earings which are beautiful, so I can't wait to see them on Maia's ears.

I got my daughter's ears pierced at just under 6 months of age.  It hurt for maybe an hour afterwards.  When I would clean her ears, she just loved it!  If she was flailing around on the change table, getting upset, all I would need to do is clean her earrings and she would lay perfectly still, enjoying the touch.  I chose to get my daughter's ears pierced as a baby so she would not remember the pain.  Also, there was alower risk of infection, since she was young enough to not be aware of what was happening, so she wouldn't be touching her ears. I got her ears pierced a the mall as the jeweler I spoke to sounded nervous.  The mall stores pierce the ears of baby's all the time, so they are more experienced and comfortable with it.
