So of course I want my little girl to have her ears pierced, but Ive never really liked the way it looks on little babies. (not intending to offend) But I have been considering it lately. Leia is 3 months old. Have any of you already pierced your babes ears or are you waiting until they are much older?

I have friends who have had their baby girls pierced as early as 1 month old.  There were no complications. They just make sure the ears and the earrings are always clean.  If you ask me, I prefer waiting until they're old enough to decide whether they want it or not.  But its your call.  It wouldn't harm the baby anyway.  ;)

I wonder if you are not going to put earrings on her now at 3 months, is there any hurry to get her ears pierced? May be wait till she is a toddler?

I actually didn't get my ears pierced until I was 17, so I may be an odd case here....:-)

I see nothing wrong with doing it while still a baby .. many friends and family have pierced their little girls ears while under a year old..I am just waiting till Alison is older. She will be 3 in February but I wanted to do it when she's ready. My plan is to have a special mommy/daughter day...take her out for lunch and then get her ears pierced :) It's the same thing my mom did with each of my sisters and I.

I had my daugther's ears pierced when she was 3 month old. As soon as she got her first shots..

In my opinion is better to do it when they are small, because they won't remember the few seconds of pain, and won't be traumatized by that...

Also the healing process is allot faster because they won't be touching their ears (avoiding a posibble infection) and you can clean them regularly

If you are going to do it, ask the person in charge to get an other person and do both ears at the same time, is better than one at the time...

We decided to leave the decision up to our daughter, if she decides she wants to get her ears pierced then we'll make it a special little event.  I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 18. It was such a fun event, and I felt good to make the decision myself.  My cousin's daughter wanted to get her ears pierced when she was 7, so they made it a special birthday treat for her and did it on her 8th birthday.  Either way, it's a personal decision, but there's no rush really.

I had both my little girls ears pierced at 3 months. Myfirst didn't know anything was happening. I gave her a bottle of sugar water to help her through and she didn't flinch (sugar high). The second girl no sugar water, and she cried for all of 30 secs. I wish I had mine done that early, I remember having it done when I was six and they held me down for the second ear, I was terrified and I am sure it was not fun to hold me down. What ever you decide I am sure she will be happy with! Good luck

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 3 months. She cried for about 30 seconds!! She just didn't want to be restrained, the piercing itself was a piece of cake! Needless to say that she has already lost 3 pairs of earrings and she is just turning 2 in the next couple of weeks!!

For those of you who have them done already....where did you get them done? At a jeweler or at claire's or one of those places.

Hi potential ear piercers...thought you might this interesting: I have been in Buenos Aires, Argentina with my little girl, Nikki (6 months) for the last 5 weeks and came to realize quickly that EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE here gets their girl's ears pierced early - I think they do it in the hospital! This means that since Nikki's ears are not pierced, everyone thinks she's a boy - without failure. I've dressed her in pink from head to toe and it still made no difference, they referred to her as "him". So, I guess there's no harm...but I'm in the camp of letting her decide if and when she wants her ears pierced. Until then, he - I mean SHE, is just going to have to survive the rest of her trip as a boy. Maybe when her hair grows longer??
