Has anyone tried this product - does it really work?

Yes, I have tried Your Baby Can read, it but not consistently so. I believe in teaching the fundamentals of literacy to a young mind when it is ready, rather then forcing them to read by sight when they are babies.

However, in as much as I allow my kids to watch Treehouse for entertainment, I also allow them to watch various types of educational videos/ DVDs for edu-tainment. They are 27 months. Not yet ready for hard-core education.

So, does Your Baby Can Read work?  Well I don't know and at this stage, I really am not focused on it working or not.  One thing I do know: whatever they watch repeatedly, they will eventually repeat. They are sponges who recite whatever they hear like little parrots. But can they truly read?

I am happy with recitation and mimicry at this stage of their lives. In a year or two, I hope to be able to truly say, "My children can read."

I have the Your Baby Can Read system, and have been using the tapes since my daughter was about 6 months old, she loves the videos, seems extremely interested every time we watch them, and the sliding cards she really likes very much too.  I am not sure exactly what she is retaining at this age, I will say you can use the system all the way up to 5 years old, and I really think she is retaining some things, I guess time will tell but she loves the videos!

Ive heard it can work, but I've not been a person who wants to train my kids... That is what it felt like... There is so much else to learn and do at this young age, learning to read is not a necessity... It will come. Also unless homeschooling is in their future, pushing them ahead of their age group for school will lead them to boredom and burnout.

my daughter loves the program! i don't force or push her to watch it but her face lights up when i say do you want to watch the program. she recongizes so many words its insane. i don't feel as though i am training her at all, it's just like reading a book and looking at the pictures. as a teacher myself i would love it if more parents took an interest in their childs learning and helped them to reach their full potential. i would and have recommed this program to any parent.
