What Are Your Favourite Books for Baby?

I need to expand my baby book collection and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations.  My little guy is 4 months old and we read to him every day.

What are your favourite baby bedtime stories?  Fun books?  Christmas or holiday-themed books?  Learning books (colors, opposites, numbers, patterns, alphabet, shapes, etc)?

We (hubby, baby and myself) absolutely love Sandra Boynton books. The rhythm and rhyming, along with the cute illustrations are a great hit. Both DH and myself can recite "The Going to Bed Book" and "Pajama Time" (along with several others...) off by heart!

My little guy is 8 months old and he loves "I Love You Through and Through"  by Rossetti-Shustak and Church and "That's not my bunny" by Wells & Watt (which has a number of books with the same concept- "That's not my baby", "That's not my snowman", etc.).  He also loves Hoppity Hop Peakaboo by Sirett (DK Publishing- there are also others in the series). :)

There are soooo many different types of baby books out there, that I'd say it doesn't really matter which specific one you get; I'd look more at the types of books: touchy-feely books (where he can touch the furry bunny, etc); simple, colourful/bright pictures (animals/etc), and nice rhyming books. We still try to use books that have shorter lines on each page (a single sentence, or two), to keep his attention on the page for a short while, and then move on to the next.

The 'I love you through and through' book is a nice one too, as it points to some body parts and when he learns them he starts pointing to them also, as we go through the book; he gets excited (not too much though, for bedtime) when he points to the right part.

Here are also two specific books that are some of our favourites for bedtime:

'Say Hello to the Snowy Animals!' by Ian Whybrow and Ed Eaves

    - has nice velvety textures for animals to touch on each page
    - nice rhyming, including making animal sounds (like 'hello polar bear, grr grr grr; hello snowy owl, hoo-hoo, hoo-hoo', etc)
    - talks about snow-land animals

(it's a tiny bit longer than usual baby books, but still very manageable)

'My Favourite Animal Places at the Zoo'
    by Trish Byrnes

    - nice cutout illustrations; just cute and nice rhyming. We read it at the end, as there is an elephant on the last page who 'waves bye bye'; our son learned it so well now that he starts waving as soon as he sees that page and elephant; nice thing to end the storytime with.

(and also the 'I love you through and through' book; plus some other short book that we usually rotate.)

My favourite place for ordering books for my little one is: www.BookCloseOuts.com.  You can't find everything, but when you can, the prices are very competitive.

    Favourite books:
    - Night-Night, Baby (Begin Smart Books) - My daughter loves saying goodnight to each of the animals and tucking them in behind the blankey.  It is a cloth book.
    - Moo Baa LaLaLa by Sandra Boynton - My daughter loves all the animal sounds.  Did you know there is an iPad/Android app that narrates this book and some of other Sandra Boynton's books?
    - Where's Spot? - My daughter loves lifting the flaps, probably one of her favorites.
    - Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? - My daughter really liked the repetitiveness and rhyme and it always gets her attention when I start reciting the book.

As for holiday books, our friend just got us the Curious Baby Curious about Christmas? book, it is a Curious George touch-and-feel board book and my daughter seems to like it so far.

Hey, reading books to children is a great habit to inculcate habits in them like reading , imagination and creativity!! just making them seeing TV all the time, would harm their eyes and as well as make them lazy too! For my child amaira i make sure that she reads books before going to bed at night!! and now she has started writing small stories too, i would publish them here!! her favorite books are Cindrella, Red riding hood, and recently i got her some more from hushbabies site, they were available at reasonable prices, and they have got barbie books too, so if you have a daughter! She would really love them, check it out here-

I like the classics like Goodnight Moon, and also the Usborne books which have board books with various textures and can handle chewing.  My 10 month old just chews or throws his books.  I have to try to reading when he is past this phase.
