There was a two week period where the flu seemed to be rampant. A few of us had the flu, here are some of the experiences.  Did you or your child have the flu? what are some remedies you used or tips?  Do you know of any doctors who do home visits? If so please post the contact info.

    Thanks

    • Hi everyone!

We just recovered from the flu. The doctors said it was most likely the swine flu. My son got it from the daycare as I expected. The point i want to make here is that homeopathics didn't help us at all!   Neither did any other remedies i was taking - ColdFX, Astragalus, Vitamin C, Fish Oil, Oregano Oil. I thought i would get away with the flu with all this stuff, but no... In Russia they say: If you get sick with the flu, you will recover in a week, if you treat the flu, you will feel better in seven days... Ladies, nothing will prevent this flu if your immune system is weak. Even garlic. In fact, it can make your stomach sore and make it worse. Don't know if that vaccine is gonna help or not, but in any case it came too late when so many people already got sick. But i know for sure that our lifestyles (not enough excercise, not enough fresh air, stress at work, not enough fresh fruit and vegetables) make our immune systems weaker and more succeptable to the flu. Plus, here is an interesting finding: if you take seasonal flu vaccines routinely, you may be at a higher risk of getting sick. Here is why:

      Hi Olga,

Thanks for posting the above article.  I'm myself recovering from a bug of some sort. I don't know if it was HINI but I had a doctor come to visit me at home through www.medvisit.ca. He didn't even come close to me, he just check my throat from a far.  My biggest complaint was a sore throat and I wanted to make sure it wasn't strep throat. He didn't do a swab, just said it didn't look like strep throat and gave me a prescription for tamiflu.  I became ill Wednesday morning, my mother-in-law came over, took Katelyn away, gave me a vinegar compress for my fever, propolis and aloe drink for my throat and left me to rest.

I think once we do get sick the most important thing is to get the rest we need. My Husband took one day off to help me. He also went to the drop store and purchased neocitran tea and Benylin all in flu remedy which he forced me to take. It was quite comedic really, I was trying to run away because I wanted to take only natural products. Finally I ended up taking the Benylin remedy. The pain in my throat went away and then I fell asleep. When I woke up the pain was back as was the chills, so all the Benylin did was coverup the symptoms for a few hours.

Once the fever, aches and chills were gone I started drinking aloe vera gel and taking oil of oregano. I find that the oil of oregano helped with my sore throat and the pure aloe vera gel helped to soothe my throat and stomach.

So it's Friday and I'm better, walking around, my energy is starting to come back and looking forward to seeing Katelyn tomorrow. My fever lasted one day (did the vinegar compress help) my chills and aches last two days ( did homeopathics, propolis and aloe help)

for me, I think so... but maybe I expected to be more ill that I actually was, I've been so scared of the flu (if I did have the flu, I think I recovered pretty fast).

Was it due to my strong immune systems? I exercise regularly, eat healthy choices, I'm cautious of toxic substances and try to use green alternatives. I use natural products and if I do get ill, I try to use natural remedies.

Was it due to the products I used?  I don't know for sure, Maybe it's a bit of both. I do know that I would use these products again if I'm ill.

I'm curious to hear from other moms what you used to recover from illness and how helpful (in your opinion) were the products you used.

Wow, Alexia, you were quite lucky. My fever lasted three days, as well as chills. Muscle aches lasted only one day, but the worst of all was the cough, i still have it. I couldn't really get any rest because i had take care of Alex who was also sick and wanted lot's of attention. Plus, my back really hurts now, because he would become so cranky that everytime something upsets him or he is hungry he wants me to carry him. Alex lost lots of weight but now he is making it up, thanks God!

So what did we do? We called a Russian/Jewish pediatrician who does paid visits. Alex was having a bad, dry cough on the third day he got sick and the doctor did steam inhalations for him using some special device. Plus we gave him Bromhexin (it's a German cough remedy, sold in Russian stores), which actually made him cough even worse and he was coughing all night. Next day I gave him some Triaminic (of which our regular pediatrician said it is not recommended for children of his age), but it helped him sleep through the day, and eventually his cough became wet, and now almost gone. He had high fever for two days, and moderate fever for another three days. I was also giving him Stodal and Oscillococcinum (homeopathic) , plus the immune boosting homeopathic given to us by our ND, I don't know if it made any difference. Some other children in the daycare who don't take any homeopathic remedies recovered faster.

As for me, i think black radish with honey, inhalations and Russian herbal cough tea are probably the best remedies so far, however, i am still coughing.

As far as I know, if it's a flu, most people will be sick for at least three days, but some people may not get sick in a full sence. For example, my mom and my husband didn't have fever, but just sore throat and muscle aches. They also never took any flu vaccines in the past.

      Hi Olga,
I think what made the difference for me was that my mother-in-law took Katelyn to her house right away so I could rest. I took the same homeopathic you gave your son, but the adult dose and I basically slept for two days. I had some periods of wakefulness during mid day, but that was it.  It was a great comfort for me to know Katelyn was being taken care of properly and my husband went to spend time with her. She loves spending time with Baba & Deida so she was happy.  I was able to rest better knowing she was well taken care of.

Maybe the ability to rest is what made the difference.  I didn't have a cough though, just sore throat.

Olga, I'm not sure if you know, but you are still contagious until your cough goes away and probably for 3-7 days after the cough goes away.

Can you please give me the number of the doctor who does paid visits. I would like to have it on hand in case I ever need to use it.  In an emergency, I would not call Medvisit for Katelyn.

I hope you feel better soon,
      Claire

    Hi there,

We were told that Liam had the symptoms of swine flue as well, and did the black radish, warm water with honey to drink, and chicken or turkey stock to drink, made with lots of herbs, onions and garlic. We didn't give him any cold medicine, only Tylenol/Advil to bring the fever down (at one point he was at 40.2..). This lasted for about 5 days, and he is over this nightmare now, no cough left behind, and only lost 2 pounds, which are all back now. I don't know what other medicine I would rely on, seeing that he got through fine with just medicating the high fever...

Olga, I would love to also have the number for the house doctor! Thanks!

Viki had it a few weeks back - I don't really know if that was H1N1, because we didn't get tested, but based on the symptoms doctor said that it is most likely the flue. We had to get Tamiflu - Viki had a really high fiver, over 40.5 for 2,5 days, but on the third day fever dropped and she was back to "normal" on the 4th. She did get it from daycare (surprise - surprise:), since we go to the same one as Olga's Alex:))

As for all homeopathic remedies against that flue - I don't think they are really working when you do get sick - it is more for your mind to get some rest that you are doing something rather than not doing anything.
