Do you know whether or not your car seat is installed correctly?

Car seat misuse rates range from 44% to 81% for car seats, and 30% to 50% for booster seats (*Canadian Paediatric Society)

Is your child in the appropriate car seat for their age?

When is your child ready to transition to the next stage of car seat?

Are you using your car seat correctly for every single ride?

Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of injury-related death for Canadian children.

The risk of injury can be reduced by protecting children with the right kind of restraint for their age and size and using it correctly.

When used correctly, proper passenger restraints can significantly reduce the rates of injuries and fatalities in children:

    • Car seats can reduce the risk of death by 71 per cent for infants under age 1 and 54 per cent for children ages 1 to 4.
    • Car seats reduce the risk of hospitalization by 67 per cent for children age 4 and under.
    • Booster seats provide 59 per cent more protection than seat belts alone.

(*Public Health Agency of Canada)

Debbi, a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) will present:

- The four stages of car seat safety
- Best practices for car seat use
- Teach you how to check your car seat and provide tips on how to securely install your car seat
- Provide recommendations for traveling with baby by taxi or plane

As a mom of three, and having installed and re-installed my kids' seats many many times, I was pretty confident they were installed correctly. Before I took the CPST course, I thought I knew what I was doing, and I was shocked, horrified and embarrassed when I realized how wrong I was, and learnt how many "little" mistakes I had been making all along.
