Hello Families!

On Tuesday, September 30, you and your child are invited to join us online for two very special events featuring drumming, singing and storytelling, to commemorate Orange Shirt Day and the recently declared National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

At 11:00am: You and your child are invited to join us online when we welcome indigenous youths Jason Wemigwans and Wyatt Bell for a spirited gathering featuring drumming, singing and storytelling...with puppets!

At 1:30pm: You and your child will virtually meet Author/Illustrator Juliana Armstrong and hear readings from her amazing and educational children's book "This is What I've Been Told". Juliana is also an Anishnaabemowin language teacher.

These programs are in collaboration with EarlyON Markham, EarlyON Markham East and EarlyON Thornhill. Registration is offered via Eventbrite; please see below for details and link to register.

This is What I've Been Told: Author Visit and Reading (via Zoom)

Birth to 6 years

Thursday, September 30 - 1:30-2:15pm

In Juliana's story of language preservation 'This is What I've Been Told', she illuminates a number of Anishnaabemowin words along with their cultural connections, passed down from her Ojibway ancestors. Knowing our culture means knowing who we are. It's been said when teachings are passed down from one generation to the next, good things can happen. Language is learned, knowledge is shared and culture is practised.
