How risk-averse are/ were you during pregnancy? Did you avoid anything that posed even a slight risk to the baby e.g. coffee, raw fish, microwave ovens ...

I know I sure missed my weekly dose of sushi...

The questions I have regarding this research are, who were their subjects?  Speaking as a mother who experienced high risk pregnancies and the tragic loss of a child, I find it very difficult to believe that any woman in her right mind will be willing to subject herself and unborn child to such harm.  Have they heard of Alcohol Fetal Syndrome?

Were these actual human subjects or lab rats?  If they were not humans, then  I will totally disregard the results.  Furthermore, even if they were human subjects, how can they know the ultimate impact of drinking on the child through to adulthood?  Did they monitor these children through to adulthood?  Well there are researchers that have and concluded "Alcohol Fetal Syndrome".

Who are the major funding companies funding this research?  I am very confident it is the liquor and alcohol companies.  Why is it so important to prove  that drinking does not impact pregnancy?  Unless if you own a business pertaining to alcohol and feel that there is a demographic group that you will like to market to.

My advice, it is not worth it.  You will have plenty of time to drink after your child is born.

I was super-careful (or paranoid) when I was trying to conceive, during the pregnancy and when I was breastfeeding. I didn't eat anything raw, cured, smoked, no caffeine (only mild green tea), no alcohol (including stuff cooked with alcohol). I knew that whatever I ate/drank would somehow passed onto my child so I wanted to be as safe as possible. We both only got sick (a minor cold) once during all that time so may be my paranoia worked for me.

It was not easy for me for those 2+ years (I don't have much will power). Of course, the week after I weaned my son, I had sushi/sashimi/smoked meat/coffee/chocolate all week long!! :-)
