I am currently looking into the various cord blood companies:
    Cells for LIfe
    Create
    Insception
    Progenics.

I would totally appreciate any advice you can give me with regards to any of these companies, both good or bad.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Mandz

    Hi Mandy,
I used Progenics, after lots of research I found that Progenics was the best price both down and for future years.
After researching them specifically they seemed reputable and trustworthy and their research showed them to have good technique with good results.

    Hope that helps,
    Lisa

Many thanks Lisa cheers :) Mandy

    Hi Debbi,
Wow that is insane.  Well I will not put that on  my application if I don't have too. Also I have been out of SA for over 30 years so if this is an issue I will go somewhere else etc..
    What a shame!!
    Cheers, :) Mandy

Mandy, your background is irrelevant if you are banking your baby's cord blood for your own private use. This is only an issue if you are donating to the public registry (safeguarding potential recipients from risky donors).

Note also that you cannot do both (donate to public registry and privately bank) - there is only enough cord blood for one.

    Hi Mandy,

My husband and I went with Create.  They are the only agency who also collect "peristem"... the actual umbilical tissue as well.  My husband has a genetic disorder that has a 50% chance of being passed to our children.  There's been some research on stem cells and curing certain disorders, and although chances are really slim that it could be used that way, I would kick myself for not doing it if in the future it actually pans out.  I'm not only banking it for the kids, but for my husband as well... Just in case... so... if you have the money and can afford it, why not??  It's insurance.  Even if you don't use it at least it's there just in case.  You probably could always just donate it in the future or as part of your will or something as well.

Thanks Inez. I too like the Peristem idea but I am having a hard time convincing hubby. So far we were impressed with Progenics.
