My little girl was born with lots of hair and of course, the easiest way to avoid all the 'boy or girl?' questions, is to have a hairclip. Even when she's weing pink, people ask. Besides, why can't girls wear blue!!

The first pair of hair clips I bought cost me $8 for two clips. After looking at how the clips were made and how much they actually cost, I decided it couldn't be that hard to make my own. So I invested in some ribbon and glue and started making my own. Since I then had a big stash of ribbon, I started making toy straps by simply sewing ribbon together and attaching some velcro. I have since started looking at other crafts and will be trying to make more 'sophisticated' pacifier/ toy straps using metal clips and snaps. Also, since I have bought a huge set of metal suspender clips, my next project will be mitten clips.

Here are some of the items I've made so far:

These are made by other crafty moms, whose ideas I will be attempting to recreate:

  • Strap with metal suspender clip http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/debbiwong/Mom%20Crafts/toystrap-eg.jpg
  • Strap with metal suspender clip and snap http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/debbiwong/Mom%20Crafts/pacifierclip-metal.jpg
  • Mitten clips http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/debbiwong/Mom%20Crafts/mittenclips-eg.jpg
  • I'll be holding craft afternoons where you can come and make your own! Let me know if you'd be interested in coming along and if the day/ time suits you.

There's another craft afternoon the following Friday (Nov 13) for pacifier/ toy straps and mitten clips. The attendees can also make hair clips if they want to, and time permitting. The main reason for splitting the sessions is that I'm waiting for my order of suspender clips to arrive. I definitely have enough alligator clips for the hair clips, so hence I'm holding that session first.

Of course, if enough people are interested, I will hold another session for any/ all ribbon crafts. Please could any interested people post a comment letting me know what days and times they can/ cannot make.

    Hi Debbi,

I am certainly interested. The only thing - I wonder if 2 pm is the only option of time that you considered?

My daughter Eva falls asleep just around that time, so it is a bit problematic for me. Something an hour or 1.5 hours earlier or 2 hours later would work much better for me (except on Mon and Tue we are going to a class).

    Thanks!

Could you let me know how I can follow most recent conversations on this site? I'm new and I do not know, but I figured the must be a better way than browsing all topics.

    Thank you!

    HI Debbi,

I would love to learn to make hairclips.  Love the ones you've made, very creative!

I've signed up for the workshop in Newmarket, which is at the same time as your session...I am interested in the hair clips and toy straps, if I attend the Nov. 13 session, will I learn how to make both?

    Thanks!

    Shy

    Hi Debbi

I was wondering if there will be another workshop as there is no more space avaliable for the coming one on 13 Nov?

Count me in!! I'm also interested in making hair clips, straps etc.  This "event" filled up so quickly, I should spend more time on the site and less with Sydney.... !!!  I do hope you have another session.  Please count me in before I need to register on-line; I wouldn't want to miss the announcement again!

Thanks, Heather and Sydney (with lots of hair growing in...)
