So this 'craft' comes with a bit of history..

Liam loves books. He also hates being strapped in the car. His cardboard books are too big, uncomfortable, not safe and etc. to give him in the car, so I was searching for other options.

At the same time, Liam was starting to say words, and repeat his favourite animals, objects and etc.

I was looking for a way to reinforce those words (which he only says when finding those pictures in his books), and also find a way to introduce the counter words, and some new ones of everyday objects, activities, etc.

So I bought a small album at the dollar store, and printed in color all those objects (from google images). Now he sits in the car with a soft fabric album that stays open, and lists through the pages, naming objects and overall being very happy.

I was laughed at in the beginning, for creating "album volumes", but the pix are always interchangeable, and you child can learn anything that way, while being happy in the car. It seems to be working with colours too - red apple, yellow apple, green apple, and etc.

Hope this works for all who try :)

Julie, what a great idea. I'm going to try that with Katelyn,  I've been trying to get her to recognize words and read them. She can recognize and spell Cat, Dog and her name but I've been looking for ways to her seeing the words and object more on a regular basis.

What I'll do is put the word on one side and the picture on the other.  SUPER great idea!
I just love it.  Thanks alot

    Julie,

I'm just wondering if you used any special album or just any fabric album?

I'm just wondering how it stays open all the time?

    Hi Anna, Claire,

    Thanks for the feedback! :) I haven't seen Katelyn in a while - I can't believe she's reading already!!!

With regards to the album it's no special album, I just want to stay away from hard cardboard for safety reasons. So I went with faux-leather. I tried several, and then came across the 'landscape' albums in the Centerpoint dollar store. Those were $3, but I then saw them for a dollar at other D-stores. I find that the landscape albums actually stay open, and if the binding is anything but hard cardboard, it'll stay open even in 'portrait' format.

To print the pictures, I just set up a table in Word - 4X6 cells, works to 6 pix a page.

    Hope that helps!
