    Hi,
Does anyone have experience with prescription glasses for a 2.5 year old?  Where do I go and get the frames/lenses?  I am in the Vaughan/Richmond Hill area.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi - I am not sure if a place in your area, but I just recently got prescription glasses for my 22 month old.  I live in Newmarket, but I was referred to Dr. Alex Mah in Markham.  He was great - very friendly, patient and informative.  His staff were great!

If you need his contact information, just let me know.

    Hi,
I already saw a couple of doctors and got a prescription.  I only need to get some frames and lenses now.  The doctor's office I went to for the prescription didn't have a lot of selection for kids' frames, so I am looking for some suggestions.  Did your doctor's office have a good selection for kids' frames?

I am curious how you both found out/realized that your toddlers needed eyeglasses in the first place? How we can check this? (I have a 20-month-old.)

My son was cross-eyed when he was born (which a lot of babies are) and then he more or less grew out of it but his one eye keeps going in a bit when he is tired so I decided to see a specialist about it and the first 2 visits were fine and by the 3rd visit he all of a sudden needed glasses.  I got a second opinion and it was also confirmed.  So really it just started with him having this "lazy eye" every once in a while.

    Hello

My girlfriend was telling me about a new program that will pay for preschoolers first pair of glass (I think they need to be registered for JK in september).

She works at an office that just opened up in Richmond Hill (Leslie & Elgin Mills area). Is wonderful with Children, here is the link to their new office.

My son got his first pair of glasses when he was 5, it made such a difference in his reading!

    Good luck!

    Hi Dee,

My daughter who is now 3 wears glasses. She has been seeing an eye doctor since she was 9 months old and we just put her in glasses recently.  We went to the Lenscrafters at Promenade Mall and they had  few glasses that fit her.  They also have extra warranty plan that you can purchase which will cover damages on the glasses.  It was good for us because a 3 year old can't really take care of glasses that well. We had her lenses replaced after a couple of months due to scratches and we only had to pay either $25 or $35. (ask them about the extra warranty plan more in detail).  It was good for us because Promenade is close to our home so we were going there for little fixes quite frequently.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'll be more than happy to answer:)

    Hi Tatiana,

For my daughter, we had no clear sign that her eye sight was bad. It was completely out of fluke that her pediatrician sent us to an eye specialist. I noticed that she would tilt her head to one side when making a cute face and that was it. She didn't bump into anything or have cross eyes.

When we took her to an eye doctor, we were shocked to hear that her eye sight was very bad.  We monitored it for 2 years and saw 2 different eye specialist.  Her eye sight improved but when she was almost 3 years old, the eye doctor decided that she needed glasses to make sure her brain development wouldn't be affected.

After seeing what my daughter went through, I recommend all moms to get their babies' eyes checked. It's never too early. If we didn't have our daughter's eyes checked back then, we still wouldn't have noticed anything because she doesn't show any signs.

    Hi all,

thanks for your suggestions. I took my son for a check-up today. He wasn't in his usual good mood so he wasn't fully cooperative, but still it went better than I expected (as far as his cooperation was concerned), and the doctor was able to check out a few things. No major defects or problems noticed at this point (he's almost 21 months old now).

It was also interesting to learn that visual exams are covered by OHIP once a year, until they are 20 years old.
