Introducing Egg Yolk

Does anyone have any ideas on how to introduce Egg Yolk to a baby? My son is not a fussy eater. He usually eats everything without hesitation. I mashed up some egg yolk, mixed it with pear puree and gave some to him for breakfast. He would not eat it. He made a awful face and spit it out. He had never done that to any foods before. The egg yolk is smelly though.

    Any ideas?

Hi Darmeen.  The egg itself is yummy enough for kids.  Have you tried taking out the pear puree?  You might also observe that he would prefer the egg white than the yoke.  Which is good too.  My girls would eat just the white.  I think the texture and taste is better.  Eventually, he will learn to eat the yoke.

I usually boil the egg, and take out the egg yolk and mix it with Bella's rice cereal or congee, she doesn't seem to notice it's in there!....how much egg yolk do you give?

T'is sure thing.  Worked for me too!  One egg yolk for the day is good enough, right?

Babies are not supposed to eat the egg whites until after they are one yr old, due to allergy risk.  My daughter did not like picking up the egg yolk with her hands initially, so I fed it to her with a spoon.  I think one egg yolk a day is good.  I don't give my daughter (age 11 mts) egg yolk every day, just every couple of days.

I agree ege yolk on its own is already tasty.  My 10 months old daughter prefers egg yolk more than cereal.  I add water to the egg yolk until it turn into a paste and feed her with a spoon.  She always eat about half of an egg yolk.  My daughter does not like to drink her formula so I feed her egg yolk 3 times a week.  You are not supposed to introduce egg white until after the baby is 12 month old.

Like others, I'll hard boil an egg and then take the yolk out.  I'll then give her half an egg yolk miked with plain yogurt (trying to make it like egg salad) and she loves it.
