When did you start solid foods?

At what age did you introduce solid foods and what did you start with?

For first time parents this can get a little confusing. When should you start? How much should you offer? What comes first?  As each baby's development and nutritional needs are different at every age, how was your experience with the first solid foods?

As for my kids, when they showed a keen interest with the table foods I knew it was time.  I started with wheat cereals for infants. At around 5 months old with my kids.  From 5 teaspoons for one meal only for the first day, slowly (a lot of spits so be patient) and dramatically fed with the cameras flashing from every angle (you know...  :~D, to a 10 tablespoon for one to two meals per day within the week.  I took the serving measurement from its pureed form and not in dry. Progressed as we took queues from baby's appetite.  It was fun, playful, and messy!

AT 4 months I started Leia on Rice cereal, which she loved. I gave her one table spoon before bed with her night feed..oh a good nights sleep. Cereal only for the first month. DONT make the same mistake that I did ladies and increased the cereal portion size too quickly. She had a horrible time with her BM and cried and cried. A "hard" lesson for me. Veggies came next. I did make my own peas and carrots, but I have defaulted to bottled since. So much easier. Fruit I started about the same time (5th month) Leia loves her food and feeding time is fun. Careful with the baby Mum Mums, they seem to snap off pretty easily and dont desolve as quick as they should. Have fun too...

I first introduced solids to my son at 7 months old. He didn't really show any interests even though he sat with us at the table while we ate. I started to give him solids once a day (breakfast) about 5 spoons full for about a month. Started with vegetables. Sweet potato, carrot, squash (each for 4-6 days).
He's now 10 months old and I give him solids just twice a day..sometimes a snack.
He still doesn't seem to care too much about eating solids however. He doesn't hate or like it. I'm just letting him try different flavours and textures.

I started my daughter at 4 months, she was very interested in what was going on at the dinner table. The first food I fed her was sweet potato then I moved on to cereal and then other fruit and veg. She is 18 mnts now and loves all kinds of different food. I don't think there is a set age to start solids , I always think "mother knows best" :)

I started Ryleigh on rice cereal - 1tsp (dry) mixed with breast milk until it was pretty runny - in the mornings about 3 weeks ago (she was just over 6mths old).  Up until then she had been exclusively breast fed (and refuses a bottle!).  I introduced oatmeal cereal about a week ago, also starting with 1tsp.  We're now up to 1TBL (still mixed with breastmilk, but thicker consistancy) in the a.m of rice and a 1TBL in the pm of oatmeal.  She is nursed throughout the rest of the day and also just before bed.

I'd like to start introducing some veggies now.....any suggestions as to the best way to do this?

    Thanks!!!! :)

My twin girls are 7 1/2 months now. They started eating solids at about 6 months. I followed my pediatricians advice. To start I fed cereal twice a day for breakfast and dinner. The 1st week was rice cereal, 2nd week oatmeal, 3rd week barley, 4th week multigrain. I started feeding with 1 tsp and increased at every feed (they are at 3 and 4 tbsp now) At seven month I started them on vegetables at lunch time. Each veggie for 3-4 days. First carrots, then sweet potato and tomorrow we are trying butternut squash.  At 8 months I am going to introduce fruit. I was told to introduce fruit after vegetables because they are much sweeter and babies might not want to eat their vegetables after they have tried fruit which is much sweeter. Hope this helps!
