Is it safe to use bottled and/or mineral water for formula milk?

I am travelling next month and ask my doctor the same question.  She said that bottle water is not as good as boiled and not recommended before 6 months however it is still better than tap for young ones.  After 6 months tap water is better than bottled because of the fluoride.  However bottled water once in a while is fine (travel purposes). She did not advise to use bottled daily, only in a pinch.

It got me thinking, how could bottled water and boiled water be so different and the latter being better?

Btw, we're talking about distilled water here, right?  Mineral water falls under another category of bottled water. (Its quite an industry eh?)  Were you referring to distilled or mineral water?  Just so we're on the same page.

Regarding tap water. One of our friends from the civic center of Richmond Hill said there is a growing concern that children are not getting enough flouride because parents prefer having bottled water, which practically doesn't have any, for daily consumption when tap water is reliable and safe.  Dental issues arise much earlier basically because kids are having "empty" water.  Would you agree?

My pediatrician told us that we should use tap water to make our lil one's formula because it is safe and well regulated. He said boiling was a nuisance and takes a lot of work. He also told us that regular hot water and soap is good to wash the bottles, there is no need to sterilize them.

Well, we eased up on the sterelizing and only do it once a week and only with the nipples and just wash the bottles in hot soapy water and let them air dry. So far so good. We still boil the water though and keep it in a thermos all day so it is still hot, then we use half hot and half cooled previously boiled water to make the formula.

In the states they have purified water for making formula. They are available at Walmart and Target. If you can make it across the border or know someone going ask them to pick you up a bottle. That would make it easy for you if you wanted to use bottled water. Regular bottled water I wouldn't trust for baby's sensitive stomachs.
