Weening from Bottle to Sippy Cup

    Hi there,

My son is 14 months and has been bottle fed his whole life.  He's completely on regular milk now and its time to get rid of the bottles, but he's having none of it.  He drinks water just fine from a sippy cup, but when I give him milk, he'll take a sip, look up at me and smile as if to say, "I know what your trying to do and its not going to work".  Then he won't drink any more.

Any tips on how to cut out the bottles?  We're going away in March and I really really don't want to be taking bottles with me.

    Thanks!

We are in the same boat!  What sippy cup have you tried?  I think it just takes some time and trial and error with different sippy cups.  Nuby makes one that transitions from bottle to sippy cup because it has different spouts.    I also like Nuby because it is a soft spout, so it is similar to the nipple of the bottle.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

We tried a nuby one before when we starting giving him water, but now that he has more teeth, he just bites the soft nipple and the thing leaks.  We've also tried a born free one, but that one leeks too.  Mostly we stick to the take and toss ones.  I'm going to get a playtex one that my friend has.  daycare mentioned that this one worked well for another kid.  Yesterday daycare didn't give him a bottle at all so we've cut the kid off cold turkey.  He didn't have his bedtime drink and probably won't drink much milk for the next day or two, but we'll give him cheese and yogurt and eventually he'll just learn that the bottles aren't coming back.  He might also be grumpy as he tries to wear us down and give in, but we'll just have to be strong.  And with any luck we'll have gotten rid of the bedtime feed in the process!

    Good luck to you!
