My Doctor says to start feeding my girl homo milk at 9 months.  Anyone else doing that at 9 months?  Any thoughts?

    Thanks Lori

    Dar
I started supplementing breast milk with Homo milk at about 10 months. At 10 months, my son was pretty mobile and getting pretty big for me to put him in the nursing mode. He just wasn't as interesting in breastfeeding anymore.

And by 11 months, he started walking and has a lot of teeth so he was fed homo milk except for the early morning and the night time feed. By 13 months, he was solely on homo milk because he refused to be in the nursing position.

I just took my son in for his 9 month check up (a lil early he is technically 9 months next week) and the doctor says he is ready for Homogenized Milk.

My big plan was to start him on Goodstart Next Stage, apparently its the next step to wean them off formula. Well that got shot down like a THUMP!!!! Nope his pediatrician said, there is no need to just start giving it to him.

We are going on a month long vacation and I already packed six cans of formula so when we come back I will start him on Homo milk and see what happens.

He is a good eater and I introduced him to cereal at 3 months to see how he would react to it. By four months he was practically diving into our plates so doc said to start him on solids full-time and we did.

These days he eats from our plates, which is good but kinda sad because I have a freezer full of babyfood I made that he has no interest in any longer as he is already liking the taste of everything else.

I  waited until 12 months - and start very slowly - not sure how resilient kids digestive tracts are at 9 months. He ate lots of foods but was on breast milk and a bit of formula until 12 months. And then we started with small amounts of dairy at a time. He reacted badly at first so we'd take two weeks off and start it up again.

I guess if your baby feels good with milk, go ahead, but I'd watch for how his bowel movements are or any rashes or other potential signs that he/she is not ready.

    Good luck!

PS - My son is now a healthy 3 yr old who loves his daily milk & yogurt!

I chose to forgo introducing cows milk until after 3 years with both. I did goats milk, rice milk, soy milk and then at 3 introduced cows milk.

My oldest hates milk, only uses it with cereal. My youngest loves it, and I have to limit her milk intake.
