Anyone have any information on the new daycare at Langstaff and 7? I was impressed when I went in, but would like some recommendations if there are any from the group. Thanks! :) Deb

Joanna has previously posted some comments in another post about Thornhill Woods Daycare.

That topic also has some links to other daycares in the area.

Another option, if you're starting your search early enough is the Upper Canada daycare in the new North Thornhill Community Centre, which opened this September. I know there's a waiting list and they take from 18 months (unofficially I believe they do take from 15 months as long as the toddler is walking well).

    Hi Debbie,

Did you end up sending your child to this daycare?  I'm planning to check it out soon.  Any comments (from you or other LWAB) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hey Renee

Not sure if your question is to me (Debbi) or the original poster (Debbie) i.e.  re: Thornhill Woods Daycare or North Thornhill Children's Centre.

Either way - my now 3-year old is at North Thornhill Children's Centre and loves it there. She has been there since she was 18 months old (when the centre opened), and we are very happy with the centre. A definite positive recommendation from us!

About a year ago, there was a bit of a shuffle of staff, with teachers leaving to work for school boards at the start of the school year, including a change in supervisor - apart from the unsettled period following all the staff changes, things have really been good. My DD has been learning a lot and her teachers have been great with all aspects of care, learning and development.

What I really like, is that this daycare is in the community centre, and they take advantage of this, having organized swimming lessons as well as hip-hop dance classes through City of Vaughan. The splash pad just outside is also in good use with the hot and humid weather.

Some times they organize events/ programs in conjunction with other nearby Upper Canada Childcare centres e.g. this summer they are visiting Solar Stage Children's theatre, various parks for picnics/ splash pads, Sportball. In the Winter, they had the preschoolers in the various centres go ice skating at a local community centre.

If you have any specific questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

    Hi!

I'm the original poster, Debbie and we started at TWDC and really love it.  The owners are a mom and daughter team who previously had home day cares.  The programme is great, also that they take infants and young toddlers.  The program is structured, but not too much so and the owner makes a lot of her own food.

My daughter, now 25 months, loves the teachers and the other kids and the price is reasonable (as far as day cares in York Region go).

Message me if you want any specific info!

My daughter goes to Butternut Daycare which is also Upper Canada Chid Care Centre. My daughter has been going there since she was 11 months old and she is now almost 3.5 yrs old.  I highly recommend it.

    HI.  Jumping on.

I recently toured Thornhill Woods Daycare with my mom who has 15 +yrs experience working at a large chain of daycares and is now working for the York School Board.

We were both far from impressed.

They had a number of violations.  That being said the children all looked very happy and well adjusted.

But things like: for breakfast the kids were  having dry cereal on a napkin (not a bowl or plate) and a cup of water.  No fruit or milk.  Things like 7 kids in the room and only one teacher, when the ratio is supposed to be 5 to 1. Given- she could have stepped out but we were there for a good 15 to 20 minutes.

Also the outdoor toys are not covered, since they all had  pools of dirty, still water on them (not only unsanitary but also unsafe with all the current cases of West Nile in York Region).

There was also a little kid sized chair with the foam stuffing out and multiple bite marks on it.  I can only hope no child is swallowing that nasty foam.

Again, the kids all looked very happy so I dont think it is affecting them negatively but I wouldnt want my child to go there.

Just my two-cents.  Could have been a bad day... who knows.
