    Hello all,

Does anyone have an idea of the cost to hire a nanny (full time vs. part time, live-in vs. live-out)?

I know that home day cares can range anywhere from $30- 70 per day depending on the location, but I have no idea what to expect for a nanny. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tina Marie

We pay $1200/month for our live-in nanny, but that's her net pay.  We also pay ~$350 per month in remittances (taxes, CPP, EI) and ~$600 per year in WSIB.  There are further costs, I suppose, in having another person live and eat in your house but it's impossible to nail down precisely what that amounts to.

When she works beyond her agreed on hours, we pay her ~$10.75/hour for additional work.  In theory, that should be taxable, but in practice, we just pay that in cash.

Live-out care is typically more expensive, but I can't offer any specifics although they make at least minimum wage or more per hour

    Hope that helps.

    Kathy,

I suggest you look into the Live In Caregiver Program (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-caregiver.asp).  I'm currently going through the process of bringing someone in from Hong Kong.  She is working as a caregiver there at the moment.  You can also go through an agency if you don't have a candidate in mind but you would be paying hefty fees from what I have heard.  A friend of mine paid about $8K and the caregiver had to pay $3K out of pocket.  They do all the paperwork for you if you don't want to bother doing it yourself.

I found my caregiver through a friend who already has a caregiver.  I'm bringing over the caregiver's sister.  Reference by word of mouth is best.  You'll also want to interview them once you have the candidate's contact.  Good luck!
