I'm looking for a home daycare in Maple for my daughter. Looking in the area around Keele and Major Mackenzie, down to Bathurst and Rutherford. Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Hi Caroline,

I know of Shoshana's Daycare in the Maple area. You can reach her at 905.303.3202. In the Bathurst and Rutherford area in Thornhill Woods there is Limor's Home Day care at 905.707.5865.

    Good luck!

Hi, Caroline and Magy, and any subsequent searching mom,
First, go check http://www.daycarebear.ca/ontario/maple/daycare-childcare-list.html This link targets our location and gives us the *current availabilities*, which is awesome. I just found out it existed ! haha. Myself, I've been hunting for all licensed daycares between (East West) Rutherford GO train and Vaughan Mills Mall area, that's from Major Mac down to Rutherford. I've focused on toddler programs. We've been here 3 years, we're moving out.
    Here's my legacy :

A.C.E. Daycare Inc. (Concord) - Advanced Care & Education Daycare (Straight facing Rutherford GO train station) Unfair urban area, metallic fence playground, asphalt and concrete. But convenient for "train GOers". Run by a sympathetic male director. Renowned educational program. Kids learn computer skills, gym teachers come twice a week for special acitivities. Jollyphonics learning daily, yoga sometimes, French class.. Daily schedule 7:00 am - 6:00pm. They always seem to have spots available though...is it because of all that dissuasive concrete environment? Dunno. Never tried this daycare myself, for my toddler. Just inquired.

Community of Maple Child Care Services - Father John Kelly  In an elementary school (Keele Major Mac), Cook on site, beautiful program and particularly clear communication of all details that went on during the day with your child. Open 6:30am-6:30pm, was $804 full time a month in 2011, run by a very positive female director. People that attend love the team, it's been the same team of facilitators for years. Good management I conclude. The school is old and grey, thick walls, sunlight is very few, walls are covered in art and plants..like you've never seen before. The jungle effect has its appeal to older kids. Good thing about older schools: they're the only ones that have air conditioning in summer. Separated classrooms for all age groups. Never tried myself. Just visited thoroughly.

Apple Tree Montessori School $995 Full time per month in 2011 (right on Major Mac), people leave amazing comments. The learning is for real, the house is an antique piece that's been revamped inside, real nice. Your kids are going to eat organic and all. Little, very little and highly fenced playground right next to Major Mac. Also very little parking for parents. Never tried myself. People online love this place, they only complaint about the traffic and the inconvenience of the daycare entrance.

Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel - Mother of Carmel Child Care Centre (Major Mac, facing Apple Tree Montessori), Beautiful Old Fashioned care school type with dynamic-loving looking facilitators, nested in the middle of a dreamy woodsy natural area. Lots of room to explore, inside and outside. beautiful playground. lots of nature. Windows are covered in large scale Disney paintings. Run by a christian nun. Never tried myself. Just been there physically.

    Rutherford School BAD RATING

Pine Tree Weston Child Care Centre  VERY BAD RATING

Saint Clare Childcare Centre 905 850-4766 (Weston and Rutherford, south of Rutherford) Open 7:15am-600pm. It's Crafts, Cooking (!) Phys Ed, meets provincial standards... IT IS THE CHEAPEST PRICE EVER AROUND. But be prepared for fundraising yourself all through the year. Never tried. Just got info.

St-Veronica Children’s Centre  905 653-4859 (Maria Antonina in Vellore Village, West of Vaughan Mills) In an elementary school, pretty vast outside. Apparently very good educational program. Always full. book years in advance it seems. haha. I guess it means something. Never been. Just called and drove by.

Precious Beginnings Children's Centre (Weston and Major Mac? well, 10375 Weston Rd) Franca Scaturchio at 905-266-0543. Toddler $910 Full time a month in 2011. BRAND NEW PLACE. Another Montessori type. never tried.

Little Kids Daycare (Weston and Rutherford) 905-417-3679 BRAND NEW, opened few months ago. Very enthusiastic female director. Sunshine allover the daycare, bright, clean, vast, a room for every age group but with passage opening for communication feeling. Brand new toys and mini bathrooms. Outdoor playground is on fake grass (haha!) highly fenced, narrow. On the other side of that high fence is a carwash..and next to the car wash is a gaz station... hehe. yep.The food : Boaden Catering. The program is educational, 15 min of jollyphonics daily, circle time with songs and books, as everywhere. facilitators are young and lovely (on open house day for what I know) haha. Price is high. Toilet trained? $900 a month..but in diapers: $1000 a month for toddler, as this is my comparable. Haven't tried. Just inquired thouroughly.

    OK

What have I tried, then? Garderie Educative Petit Bateau A French daycare. Because I am Québécoise. hehe! If you are ever interested, you don't have many options for French immersion. I can recommend this one, but unless you want a home French immersion around Thornhill (there is one, I forgot the name), you will end up at Petit Bateau ANYWAYS. Be prepared for a $15 booklet that tells you *roughly* all that your child has done that week in terms of vocab, songs, also evaluating nap, feeding, regularity and general mood. The daycare is in a catholic elementary school that sings the national anthem and that prays on intercom daily, a school surrounded with wide grass terrain, concrete playground with sandboxes and trikes, extensive public playground, woods, mini wood path with bridge and small creek. It's not just nice, they do experience it all. Facilitators are mature and very good. And for christmas, you are invited to your child's singing and dancing show followed by a buffet. My child has loved his experience there. One thing, for the true French speaking moms: you'll be glad your child can't read yet because the $15 booklet has countless grammar mistakes. You want good news? It's going to cost you only around $850 a month full time for toddler.
