Okay so my little guy is starting to test out the range of his vocal cords and he loves doing this EXTREMELY high pitch scream.  I remember being at a cottage and my friend's kid was doing this.  My husband and I thanked god our son wasn't doing that.  Well now that he is older he is doing it.  Does anyone know how long this phase lasts?

Hey Suzette, Liam's doing the same thing.. we are actually take him, make eye contact and say 'No. This is not ok' with a 'strict' voice. Hope eventually this will work.

When Naomi was about three months, she did the same thing. It freaked me out at first cuz I didn't realize it was normal. We let her do it. And she eventually outgrew this phase-- on and off periodically for about 3 weeks I think. Of course, months later, when she was really excited, she would shriek (though it was never sounded quite the same as that "high pitch" scream phase.). I don't think there is any harm in it. They are "finding" and realizing their voice at this stage.

My little girl used to do it when she turned a year old. At first we tried doing the same what Julie did with her little one - looking her in the eye & telling her "NO" but it didn't stop her, so I started the "distraction trick". I would either pick-up a toy and start playing with it or a book and ask her whether she wants to hear a story. That would distract her & she would stop immediately. Try it, it might work :-) ..... not all babies are the SAME!

Leia has just started this. Im telling you for the past few days I was thinking I would blow a gasket. It seemed as though she was really throwing a mini tantrum in order to get her way. Today seems to be a bit better. Im trying to "catch" her before she heads into that state. I keep praying for continued patience.

Hold on and keep the faith.  Thank goodness the high pitched scream was a fairly short lived phase although at the time it seemed forever.  It's really them discovering themselves, their lung power and the ability to gain attention.  If you can try to ignore they eventually get bored of it themselves.
