I think there were 2 thing that took me by surprise the most:

1.Tthe lack of sleep for pretty much the first 5 months. When my son started sleeping 5 hours straight, I was so elated! LOL
2. How difficult breastfeeding couldbe but how rewarding it became when I finally got it.
