I really don't like doing the dishes and my partner and I used to bicker about who does it. We decided to share the load and do it on alternate nights. On my nights it still just felt so much like a chore, that just getting up to do it needed a lot of motivation.
So.... I bought really cute gloves in my favourite colour to brighten up my mood, that helped a bit, but what helped the most was bringing my laptop into the kitchen and watching a comedy while doing the dishes. I just to go to tvcorn.com and choose what I want to watch. Now I'm laughing and smiling when I do the dishes.

Another or tips for making housework less boring?

    Hi Claire!

I noticed you mentioned that you wash the dishes by hand, my tip "DISHWASHER".  I can't live without it.  Just in case your home is not equiped with one, they have portable dishwashers as well as small countertop dishwashers for apartments.

I hate house work.  It is an issue with me and my husband too.  I never liked it before I got married or had a baby.  Ever thought of getting somebody coming in to help out maybe once a month?

I have always hated housework too. Unfortunately my hubby and I are not the most tidy people either, not to mention having a little one that makes a mess everywhere he goes!

I am considering having someone help clean the house every 2 weeks. But I just feel uncomfortable having a stranger touch my stuff. Does anyone have any experience to share on this? Where do you find a reliable cleaner? What responsibilities will they have and how much approximately should one pay?

Hired or volunteer (some awesome family member that's unheard of) housekeeper would really be a great option!  I've looked around a bit a few months back and their rates are based on per square feet of your house. However, I did not dig deeper to know the numbers...not yet.  Re the same anxiety of having a stranger in the house, you can actually specify the areas of the house you want cleaned, the day, and what time of the day.  So you can stick around and watch tv while she scrubs.  I've heard about cash-basis help who can come at $10 per hour referrals from friends.  Or from agencies who charge a little higher.  That's a ballpark.  ;)

Right now, with the unpredictable economy, I've resolved to stick my regular housekeeping routine despite the extra delays.  If it would help you get some perspective, read about it in my blog:

    Enjoy!
