The days can be long when you re stuck at home all daywith no one but the kids to talk to...what do you do when you need a second to relax or collect your thoughts and you dont have anyone there to help??? I have a gated off living room that is baby proof...I go to the bathroom and read for 5 mins, 2 mins, 30 seconds while I pee...whatever...I just leave the door open so I can hear my little guy just incase...the playpen works too if u dont have a safe area. Anyone else have something they do???

I get extremely stir crazy if I'm at home with my daughter all day, so I avoid being home alone as much as possible.  I go for walks with her, the playground, or call up another mom and do a playdate.

When I get exhausted and just need to relax I sit down with a cup of tea and put her in  a safe area where she can play quietly.  This usually last a whole 5 minutes if I'm lucky!

When my hubby gets home from work. He watches her and then I get 30 minutes to relax before the evening routine.

I go out once a week with friends to get out of the mommy mode for a few hours :-)

Scrapbooking and more scarpbooking, walking with my fellow moms, doing my vegetable gardening up north....

We all need mommy time, so do not be shy to hire a sitter or have hubby look after the kids!

Ever just turned 2 yesterday, and she is finally self-sufficient enough to entertain herself for an hour or so, while I go into the kitchen (which is baby-gated) and make beaded jewelry, which I sell at craft fairs and the like.  I really enjoy this, and have been so delighted to start creating unique pieces again!  I hadn't fully realized until now just how much I'd really missed being able to make lovely things!  When I first resumed this activity, I was a little concerned that she would feel neglected, but I find that it's all good, as long as Ever can see me, and talk to me over the gate.

Another outlet for me is taking long bike rides, towing Ever in her twin-size bike trailer. We live at the far east end of Queen St., where the lakeshore bike trail starts, and we ride all the way to the west end of the trail and back.  I like to do this 2-3 times a week, and go either in the late afternoon, or evening.

It is awesome exercise, and I can have a good, long time, uninterrupted, just to think my own thoughts, and reconnect with myself!  I also enjoy listening to music or books on CD, while riding my bike.  So much fun!  Ever likes to play with our iPod Touch while she rides along, or play her harmonica, or her kazoo.  When she gets tired of riding, we take a break at one of the many parks along with lakeshore.  It works out great for both of us!

It's been hard, because I don't really have any friends in my neighborhood, or whom I see with any frequency.  I am really thankful to have these two relatively new pastimes to enjoy, so that I can continue to feel positive about living, and retain this good feeling as I interact with my little one.  I know it makes a difference to her what kind of mood I am in, and it feels wonderful to be able to show her my best face as much of the time as possible.  :-)

Ah! Those precious moments when we can be not just mommy or wife. I like to sew during those moments. I sew for my son, myself, my home and occasionally, my husband. When I haven't sewn for a while, I get really moody, grumpy, etc. I have to force myself to sew a couple of times a week, even if it's only for 1 hour. I find the sense of accomplishment really energizes me. And besides, I get great satisfaction seeing my son wearing my creations!

Out the door and run!  Oh yeah.  Then some strength training. Other days I write. On scheduled evenings I train and play badminton.  This summer I do gardening in the afternoon.
