Any moms out there have worked part time while they were still on mat leave? How does this affect your mat pay?

On the Service Canada site, this was the posting in regards to working while on mat leave...

Can I work while I'm receiving maternity, parental or sickness benefits?

If you work while on maternity or sickness benefits, your earnings will be deducted from your benefits, dollar for dollar.

If you work while on parental benefits you can earn $50 per week or 25% of your weekly benefits, whichever is higher. Any monies earned above that amount will be deducted from your benefits, dollar for dollar.

Do you know if they calculate the 25% based on your gross or net benefits?

Hi Sandy, the 25% would be calculated based on your gross income, before tax.

If you have any other questions please feel free to email me, my background is in HR (steph@lifewithababy.com)

I worked on a contract on my last mat leave.  You are allowed to make a set amount (which I cannot remember)  which does not affect your EI Benefits. After you reach this amount, your benefits are deducted dollar-for-dollar what you earn.  I called and discussed this with my EI worker.  I also had to fill in forms claiming how much I earned each week and submit to EI and maintain my pay stubs in case they decideded to audit me (which they did not).
