What pregnancy advise have you heard/received that turned out to be a myth, or should I say hilariously unfounded?

When I was pregnant I often heard the following (but not limited to)
    1. The size and shape of the tummy determines the gender of the baby.  They say if its kinda growing forward its a boy, and if its growing sideways its a girl.

    2. When you get a lot of heartburn that means that baby is very hairy

    3. When you seem uglier when you're pregnant the baby is a boy; if you seem prettier its a girl.  Or if your nose is too big its a boy, otherwise a girl.

    4. Drink a lot of milk or safron and the baby will be fair skinned.

    5. Don't take a bath or shower for one whole month, otherwise the body will be very weak in old age.  If you do shower, use warm water with a lot of ginger.

Ok, I'm trying to stop myself from adding more since i'm getting fits of laughter, and I haven't even made my personal comments yet.

    What have you?

    Here's one:

If you bump into something, the baby will have a birth mark on spot you bumped.

Oh I heard that bump-birthmark, too.  When my 2nd was born she had quite a number of birthmarks all over from nape, scalp, forehead, lower back, legs, etc. Then I heard all sorts of jokes.  As it turned out, those were temporary birthmarks.  Where do birthmarks come from anyway?

My mother-in-law says that if you don't satisfy a pregnancy craving the baby will be born with a birthmark in the shape of the unsatisfied craving.  So if you wanted strawberries and didn't get them the baby would have a strawberry shaped birthmark.  Right now it drives her crazy when my husband and I dress our son at the same time.....she says the only time that is done is at the funeral home and it's bad luck.

I may have had a lot of unsatisfied craving with my 2nd pregnancy, so that's why!  :D
Dressing up the baby at the same time..... seriously?

Have you heard having people rub the round belly to be good luck?

I actually had a client at my work ask to see me once she found out from our receptionist that I was pregnant.  She and her husband were trying to get pregnant and so she wanted to rub my belly for good fortune.  It kind of freaked me out and when I told my husband he said he hoped she didn't take our good fortune! :)

Freaky and so annoying for me.  I was like in the don't-touch-my-belly alert in all my pregnancies.  So, did they conceive afterwards?   ;)

Has anyone actually done this? You tie your wedding ring to some thread, hang it over your stomach and it moves in circles - you're carrying a boy.  When it swings from side to side, you're carrying a girl.

I'm not sure if they were successful or not.....I went on mat leave soon after that and I haven't asked about them.
