Hair Loss

    Hi everyone,

My hair started falling out in clumps about 3 months after birth and is still falling out like no tomorrow! To add to that, my baby grabs and yanks strands out during nursing, even when I have it in a ponytail. Is there anyone else experiencing this? Any idea when the hair loss slows down?

Hi Veronica. I'm getting very concerned about  falling hair too. Like you, I have a newborn and I was wondering whether its hormonal or induced by hair products.  Right now I'm trying to lessen shampoo and if I could wash my hair with warm water alone on not so active days.  It seems to work a bit. :)

Post-partum hair loss is normal. According to this article, no need to panic (yet) :-)

Greetings!  My hair is still falling out at 9 months.  At 7 months I mentioned it to my doctor and she advised that it is normal however, it can be an indication that your thyroid is out of whack.  So, she did some blood tests just to be sure.  Might want to do the same  :)

I think it is just hormones too and dietry change as well. I am sure these breastfed babies suck all the good stuff out of us! Take vitamins, rest when you can.If you talk to a naturopath she might be able to give you supplements to help prevent more hair loss. Also seasons change, and that is when I notice more than normal hair loss for me.

My daughter is 16 months old now and my hair loss is just getting under control (although with winter coming fast, I'm sure the [normal] hair loss will start up again).  I was really concerned because my hair started falling out before she was born and the first pics of me holding my daughter shows actual bald spots!  It took a while, but it IS normal and it will stop eventually.
