Here's a sensitive subject - what happens to your chest after you are over the baby hill... After taking my first off in one day (had to go on meds), I suffered from pain and was left with ... well... nothing after all the milk was gone.

Now I'm expecting my second and am wondering what the best strategy is to preserve a shape that is as close to "normal" or "original" as possible. And size, if possible..

    Does anyone have any ideas?

I am yet to find a mother who breastfed and never had a reduced cup size and sagging breasts.  Like me, it feels more soft and smaller after weaning.  Weight loss may be a factor too.  From what I gather, the fat on the breasts and the skin around it is affected by the physical pressures from lactation and nursing.  It would seem like the baby practically drains more than milk from our bodies.  That's one of the side effects many women are avoiding that leads them to bottle feed than nurse directly to the breasts.  Well, there's always the push-up bras, padded or not.  Hooray!!!

Ive heard of people whos boobs stay bigger after...but I dont know about the sagging...I think I, like many other moms are doomed to what I once heard called "tennis ball in a sock syndrome" I think the best thing you can do is make sure you have a GOOD supportive bra while nursing...Keep them held up so the weight doesnt stretch the skin anymore than the mil already does.

Would weaning the baby very slowly - over several months - help at all?

Nah... I don't see any correlation with the two.  :D

I think to determine what boob exercise we can do, if there is such a thing to retain the fullness (oh gawd I hope there is!!!), we probably need to understand the anatomical and physical composition of the boobs.  Like how muscle fitness is studied and analyzed for the proper work-out vis-a-vis desired results.  I could probably ask my massage therapist and hear what he has to say.  :D

I have read that the changes in breasts are due to the pregnancy itself and not breastfeeding.  Genetics likely play a role too.

Actually that's a good point.  Would you be kind enough to find and shoot that article here.  Thanks a bunch!
