FYI, baby walkers are illegal in Canada (since 2004)  http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/child-enfant/equip/walk-marche-eng.php

FYI, I believe it is the sale of baby walkers that is illegal in Canada.  Personally, I think they are safe if you use them on a lower level where there are no stairs going down and providing that you have baby proofed your house ie. outlet covers, etc same as you would if your baby was walking.

You can buy them in the US at Target, and Walmart, they are quite inexpensive, I would suggest if you can get over there at any time to  buy from there. Because yes THE SALE of Walker's are illegal in Canada.

Canada is banning the sale, advertising and import of baby walkers, warning people they face fines of up to $100,000 for ignoring the ban....

While coming across the border last time, the car in front of us had a baby walker they were trying to bring across it was taken from them and they were pulled into the office my guess is to pay a fine for trying to bring it across, because as stated they are illegal in canada.  So the person who suggested you go to the states to buy one is maybe not the best idea as you are taking a big risk.

Walkers are not illegal in Canada and you do not have to pay a fine if you bring one across.   They are banned from being sold in stores and at garage sales.  I feel they are safe if you have a home with no stairs or if used in the lowest level of the house.  They actually have a safety  features where the walker drops down about an inch and breaks if the front or back wheels go over a step.  I feel they are safer than an infant crawling around the house as long as they are used in a safe environment.

I have a baby walker, and when I mentioned that I had one at my doctor's office, she said that they are not safe for babies anymore, that is why they are banned here in Canada, but I told her that we watch him very carefully, and also, we don't have any stairs for him to fall down, so she said oh ok...so as long as you don't have any stairs you should be fine because that is why they are banned, because there were too many accidents with kids falling down stairs in them. and my son loves it, we don't use it much anymore, now that he's crawling around and pulling himself up on things now, not fully walking yet, but almost! he is 9 months :)

We had a baby walker we used in France for my LO. She LOVED it. We tried to bring it back with us into  Canada and it was confiscated at Customs. We did not have a pay a fine but the officer explained there have been too many accidents in Canada with baby walkers and parents who had turned their heads for 2 minutes, that they are banned. I was very disappointed as we always used it in a safe environment and my daughter loved it so much.

I brought one with me from my last trip in Europe and I was not checked at the airport. Apparently in Europe they say that they are not good for the babies as they delay walking and the babies legs are not straight. Well, I was using a walker for sometime when I was small and my legs are straight.
