How do you help your baby adjust? What preparations do you make? How do yo manage the schedule and routine? Would you share your experience.
I took my oldest son to Italy and then to Hong Kong shortly after. When we went to Italy he was 15 months old. There was a 6 hour time difference. He adjusted pretty well. It took us 2 days of sleeping in till 10 am to adjust. We had really dark curtains at our hotel. As for when we went to Hong Kong, he was 18 months. He adjusted fairly well also. I think it depends on their age. It was easy because he took a soother and napped throughout the day in his stroller. I wouldn't know how he'll be now if we take him because he's 3 and doesn't take a soother and doesn't nap much during the day.
As for routine, I'd say, there wasn't much routine. We didn't let his usual home routine dictate our trip. When we went to Italy, he was napping twice at home usually. There, he took 3 short naps in his stroller. It was great! We'd go out and do stuff and napped when he had to. To us, the soother and the stroller were a life saver! I think when going on trips, it's better to go along with the flow. If we tried to follow his usual routine, we'd be stressed out because he wouldn't nap at his usual time. I was worried once we got back, he'd be all chaotic with no schedule. But he went back to his usual routine in no time.
