Join us for a unique 5-week gentle mom and baby yoga class – stretch, strengthen, and connect to your postpartum body.  Mom & Baby Yoga is best suited for moms with pre-mobile children. We recommend it for babies 9-months or younger only so that you are not chasing your kiddo around during class! However, anyone is welcome, make this class you own! Let your little one toddle around, or perhaps they are taking a snooze – that is okay! Move through creative flowing sequences that balance effort with ease. This class is designed to strengthen and enhance flexibility. Synchronizing breath with movement, students explore a variety of postures and dynamic transitions that inspire and energize.

    Dates: Wednesday, Jan 27-Feb 24

    Time: 10-10:45am

Cost: $70 for the 5-week session

We wanted to find out how Canada is doing to provide adequate support for perinatal mental health challenges, so we commissioned an original research report to determine: Is Canada doing enough to support perinatal mental health?

Before answering whether Canada is doing enough as a whole, we first needed to know what was already in place. Our research methodology hinged on the question: What infrastructure for perinatal mental health screening is currently in place in each province or territory in Canada?.

We found that out of all 13 provinces and territories, only 6 have a provincial perinatal mental health strategy in place.

Across the country, notable gaps in diagnosis, treatment and care exist in varying degrees. To answer whether Canada is doing enough to support perinatal mental health, in short, no. Resources are not equally accessible, distributed or even available.

Based on the monumental research, analysis and experience of hospital systems, researchers, practitioners, countless organizations, groups and the like, we believe a top-down, bottom-up strategic approach is necessary to improve maternal mental support across Canada. National attention and action, coupled with grassroots initiatives advanced by organizations, individuals, teams and groups, will mean a tangible progression in the right direction.

Our sincere hope is that this report acts as a catalyst for all of us to work together to advocate for and improve maternal mental health support in Canada.

Thursday, January 28th is Bell Let's Talk day and every single social media post that includes both the #BellLetsTalk and #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth hashtags matters!

Why does this matter? 1 in 5 moms will experience a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder, including postpartum depression and anxiety, and maternal suicide is a leading cause of death in postpartum women. The more we talk, the more women know they are not alone. Please lend your voice to bringing awareness to the need for a national strategy for mothers in Canada. Learn more about our advocacy and how you can get involved here It's Time For A National Perinatal Mental Health Strategy

Not sure what to say? Below we’ve put together some sample tweets and social media messages, as well as some key messages and facts for you to use:

    • Today on #BellLetsTalk Day, we embrace those navigating Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. We’re in this together.  #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • Check in on a new or expecting mom today. Just hearing your voice can make a difference to someone dealing with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders including depression, insolation, or anxiety.  #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • 1 in 5 women will experience Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Some won’t even know it. Let’s change that. @lifewithababy offers resources, events and activities near you. #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • Know a new parent? They might be dealing with more than sleepless nights. A call, a meal, an invite for coffee or a walk, or to watch the baby for an hour can go a long way to help. #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • It takes a village to raise great kids - and it starts with supporting parents. Check in, follow-up, offer help. We’re in this together. #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • What does maternal mental health mean to you? Have a story or advice to share? #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth #BellLetsTalk

    • 1 in 5 women will experience Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders but may be too afraid to ask for help. Let’s change that.  #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

    • Research shows peer support reduces social isolation. New parents often struggle with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders in silence. Let’s change that. Check in, follow-up, offer help. #BellLetsTalk #BellLetsTalkMaternalMentalHealth

Normal Infant Sleep - a look at normal infant sleep in the first year of life

    with Sleep Consultant:

    Daphne Dunlap of

    Aligned Littles Sleep

Daphne is a Baby-Led Sleep & Well Being Specialist whose passion is supporting families in getting more sleep without using traditional sleep training. Her goal is to educate our community on normal and safe infant sleep throughout the first year of life. She believes that your relationship with your baby is the most important and her approach is rooted in attachment theory (which is different from attachment parenting). During her presentation she will be busting some common myths about infant sleep, sharing five red flags that could interfere with sleep, and giving you tips and tricks for creating the most optimal conditions for everyone in your household to get more sleep. Daphne empowers all mamas to tune in to their baby, trust their instincts, and follow their heart. She always encourages mothers to keep the parts of their sleep routine that they love and supports them in making changes to anything that is no longer working for them.

    THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN UNDER CONSTRUCTION:

This presentation will explore what has been learned about the brain development and how environment and experience play a key role in this development. Risk taking, novelty seeking and drive for rewards are going to be explained as typical and normal behaviours in adolescents. However, this is a time of extreme vulnerability and with it a heightened risk for the development of mental health disorders. We will also explore how social media and other stressors may be contributing to the apparent increase in anxiety being reported by young people.

Adolescence is the period of transition child to young adult, specifically 10-19 years of age.

    Are you a parent?
We recommend this workshop for parents with kids 8-16 years to know what to expect and how to support your child as they transition through the 3 stages of adolescence.

Are you a professional who work with parents & children?
This workshop is geared towards professionals with who work with parents & children of all ages and especially significant for those working with children ages 8 years of age and older.
